Facebook will introduce a “Dislike” button.

“People have asked about the ‘Dislike’ button for many years … and today is a special day, because today is the day that I actually get to say we are working on it and are very close to shipping a test of it.” Those are the words of Facebook CEO & founder
Mark Zuckerberg, who unveiled the new project in a
public Q&A. But, let’s take a deeper look into the
ideas behind the upcoming ‘dislike’ button. Many have voiced their desire for such a function in
an attempt to show their disdain for certain topics on
their newsfeed, however Zuckerberg has other plans
for it. He wants to introduce the ‘dislike’ feature as a
means of showing empathy, for when someone
shares a sad status or article, rather than using the feature like Reddit does: with up- and down-voting. “We don’t want to turn Facebook into a forum where
people are voting up or down on people’s posts. That doesn’t seem like the kind of community that we want to create: you don’t want to go through the process of sharing some moment that was important to you in your day and have someone downvote it.
