Skepta and Other Legendary Grime MCs Become British Noblemen For Special Tate Britain Exhibit.

The Tate Britain is honoring a few of
grime’s greatest MCs with a special
exhibition of “Legends of the Scene,” a
series of paintings by British artist Reuben
Dangoor. Dangoor chose to focus on some
of the most influential artists who have helped shape the sound and culture of
grime throughout the years. Skepta, Stormzy, Dizzee Rascal, D Double E, and Wiley all appear depicted as lavish-living British noblemen, while still rocking track
suits and sneakers.

The exhibition is part of an ongoing series
at the gallery called “Late at Tate.” For this
newest installment, the focus is set on
celebrity and how art has displayed status
throughout history.

Keeping with the theme of the
exhibition, Dangoor mentions on
his personal website that he “Love[s] the fact that garage and grime are finally getting the
love it deserves,” so he “Felt like [he]
wanted to honor some of the legends of the
scene in a historical way.” If you find yourself in London, make sure
to check the exhibition out in person while
you can. If not, check out the full series
