The Grammys Will Honor Run-D.M.C. With A Lifetime Achievement Award.

Pioneering rap group Run-D.M.C. will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys this year. In 1986, the trio was the first rap collective to be nominated for Best R&B Vocal Performance because the rap category hadn’t been formed yet. Over 30 years after leaving the show without anything, the legends will finally receive an award.

Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy, said in a statement, “Each year, The Academy has the distinct privilege of honoring those who have greatly contributed to our industry and cultural heritage, and this year we have a gifted and brilliant group of honorees. Their exceptional accomplishments, contributions, and artistry will continue to influence and inspire generations to come.”

The Recording Academy will also be giving honorary awards to Celia Cruz, Earth Wind & Fire, John Cage, Ruth Brown, Jefferson Airplane, Herbie Hancock, and Linda Ronstadt.

The 58th Annual GRAMMY Awards will be on Sunday, Feb. 15th at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
