Yung Joey hails from Jamaica, Queens, but tends to take his musical cues from down South. On his latest release, “Gas,” Joey jumps on a track with Atlanta’s (currently incarcerated) king, Gucci Mane. It creeps and crashes, and Guwop’s whisper is nicely offset by Joey’s glowering-flow. “Just to clear the air up, I been Bricksquad since day 0,” Joey wrote in an email to The FADER. “The crazy thing is, we still have a bunch of records we did together that haven’t been released yet. Gucci’s catalog is sick. They said 2pac used to make like 3 songs a day? I seen Guwop average about 5, no jelly. Shout out Caveman. Free Gucci!!!!” Amen.
